Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.
An important official commented the attack made him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
