The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a non-human character said.
